Cleverly selling your data back to you

I was shocked to read in the excellent book, Click Here to Kill Everybody, about a defibrillator company that measures your heart and owns the data. What??, I thought. You don’t control your own data? But then I found out this is more often the case than not. The popular running and exercise app Strava, for example, holds back some of the data it collects about you in the free version. Then it sells you your own data in the paid version.

This is why I switched to HealthFit. It takes the data from my Apple Watch, and lets me see all of it. That’s the way it ought to be, and that’s why I don’t use Strava any more.
